A few years ago, after living in Australia my whole life I moved to Canada. I still so clearly remember the first time I went to a bar and a guy walked up to me with a smile, said hello, and asked if he could buy me a drink. As a cis-women doomed to be attracted to men, I cannot fully explain the pure shock I felt at this friendly and respectful interaction with a boy who found me kind of cute. No grabbing my wrist to yank me over to him.
In Australia though, the pop punk community has blossomed quite nicely over the pandemic with new bands seemingly appearing online by the minute. The musical landscape in this country has grown from the days of playing around with the catchy, nostalgic elements of their US counterparts. We also need to mention that in , some OG Aussie punk favs are making their return to the spotlight.
The songs are bursts of intensity filled with anger, empathy, humour and power. We recorded it five years ago. All the hard work was done so long ago. It being out feels so amazing.
The four wrote, recorded, and released their first EP, Giddy Up , in a span of 12 hours. They take their name from the Australian slang for amyl nitrite , also known as poppers. So you sniff it, it lasts for 30 seconds and then you have a headache — and that's what we're like! In , the band went into the studio to record their debut album with producer and former Add N to X drummer Ross Orton.
