Technology has allowed us to connect to more and more people than ever before, and this includes romantic relationships. Although online dating can be controversial, more people are downloading apps allowing this generation to swipe for love.

Second-year Journalism major Abdullah El-Sherbeeny believes that the pandemic caused his peers to turn to online dating at a much higher rate. Rachel Fish, a third-year biology major, found the scene to be a mixed bag overall. The rigidity of technologically-driven correspondence does not often allow for social cues such as tonal inflection, body language, eye contact or other critical aspects of communicating accurately with others. El-Sherbeeny pointed out other stark differences between dating online and meeting a potential partner in person.
Dating apps like Tinder and Bumble have advertised to college students on campus for years, but dating apps may be losing their luster for this demographic after a new survey found most students are finding relationships in person. Axios and Generation Lab surveyed college students this fall about their beliefs on dating and found that most students don't use dating apps regularly, and a majority met a significant other through in-person connections.
