LoginMost people are… in theory, at least. This is especially true when it comes to online dating. Why do all of that when you can meet women without leaving your house? Most dating sites let you set up a profile for free but require that you pay money in order to be able to message people. Winks, nudges, flowers, etc. Much like stressing about the opener, the first email is there to get them interested enough to write back.
While finding love might be seen as an online game by many in today's culture, there's a wave of Gen Z-ers ditching the apps and searching for someone in-person. A whopping 65 percent of dating apps get deleted within just a month, a recent AppsFlyer survey found. And of those who uninstall the apps, 90 percent do it within a week. Dating apps became a way of life since Tinder and its more relationship friendly competitors, Bumble and Hinge, came on the scene, and a slew of unique dating platforms continue to emerge looking to lure in singles. Brianna Spinella, a year-old in Staten Island, said she deleted the apps when she realized all the criteria she put into it didn't matter. Even if I tried changing my location like Hinge allows, it didn't make a difference. None of the people were on my wavelength and most were looking for hookups.
I, like many others, was initially drawn to the idea of finding love conveniently and efficiently through dating apps like Tinder, OkCupid, and Bumble. However, I was quickly exposed to the toxic nature of these apps and it really took a toll on my self-esteem. While I did have a few good dates as a result of dating apps, I can definitely say the bad experiences far outweighed the positive ones. In a world where technology dominates our lives, dating apps have become the go-to platform for meeting potential partners. Dating apps are a waste of time for a major reason — they provide a platform for users to exhibit bad behavior while hiding behind a screen. The anonymity these apps offer gives some users the confidence to harass their matches using abusive language or making offensive comments just for the fun of it.
Everyday millions of people sign onto dating apps and dating sites in hopes of meeting their soulmate. However, I do not think dating apps or dating sites work for everyone. Nor are dating apps the end all cure to finding love.
