Team selection for random battles is done according to several parameters. Each battle takes place in a battle tier , which should not be confused with tank tiers. On this page we always use Arabic numerals "7" when discussing battle tiers and Roman numerals "VII" when discussing tank tiers. Team balancing within a battle tier takes place according to vehicle specific weighting and additional restrictions. Battles can take place in ten different battle tiers. Each vehicle, depending on its performance, is assigned a certain subset of these battle tiers that it is supposed to fight in.

In World of Tanks, platoons allow players to team up and enter battles together in small groups of two or three. Update 9. We'll explain how the new matchmaking system works for those who are new to these recent changes. World of Tanks matchmaking now follows a template-based algorithm. Ideally, the matchmaking system will create teams with only three tanks at top tier, five at mid-tier, and seven at the bottom. This setup comes in various iterations, but the same ratio still applies, keeping the bottom tier players as the majority on both sides. Premium vehicles with Preferential matchmaking have the following benefits: They will not face vehicles more than one 1 Tier higher; and they are likely to be matched with other vehicles of same Tier or lower. Basic Improved.

Matchmaker for Low-Tier Battles

The matchmaker is an in-game feature designed to improve the experience of novices in low-Tier Random Battles Tiers I—V and not pit them against more experienced players. The matchmaker will aim to create battles with only novices. The only exceptions are if there aren't enough novice players, in which case the matchmaker will select some seasoned players. A player is considered to be a novice if they have not played a single battle in a researchable Tier VII or higher vehicle in any game mode.
