This Town in Ireland Has a Month-long Matchmaking Festival Every Year

So how the heck did I end up at the Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival this past fall? One thing was for sure — it would make for an excellent story. At the tail end of the pandemic as a single something who recoiled in horror at the thought of online dating, I was intent on meeting my next partner in real life. A proper meet-cute. A spark. A story. It was only after several months of neither a conversation nor a smile exchanged with a handsome stranger that I began to contemplate using said dreaded apps. To be clear, my medical professionals were very, well, professional. The point here is, I caved and plunged into the world of online dating.

Although not quite as quirky as the Puck Fair in Killorglin , the now-iconic Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival is one of the more unique festivals in Ireland. This rural village is famous for the annual Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival, the largest in Europe, as it happens. Each September, it attracts around 40, hopeful singletons in search of love. The Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival will run from September 1st to 30th, with a number of events taking place across the month.
