LoginHow does a mother respond? Go play with a doll or eat a cupcake, and stop thinking about boys, geez! The sooner we as parents come to terms with the fact that our children were created with all the full range of feelings and longings and desires which God crafted as male and female for his glory, and for our good, the easier it will go. We can talk to our kids about this, or we can ignore it. If we begin talking with our kids early on about attractions and the opposite sex, it can naturally flow as they grow into the teen years. From when they are young start talking about boys and girls and sex and dating and relationships—use age-appropriate discussions but tackle these subjects like a linebacker stopping a touchdown. No child—or adult for that matter—likes to be lectured. And worse, next time they will talk with someone else. Listen to who he is trying to sit next to in class. Listen to who she is trying to get attention from.
Most parents have some fears of the day their child will start dating. There are also things you can do to make dating easier for both of you. Talk to your teen about what a good relationship is. Make sure your child understands what it means to be in a loving and supporting relationship.
It was a shock to the system when my kids became old enough to date. I always thought I would be ready, but when the day finally came, I was filled with fear. Questions flooded my mind.
Have you ever wondered if moms still remember their first crush? I definitely remember. I was 14 when I had my first boyfriend. It was the summer between eighth and ninth grade.
