LoginI once lived in a year-old farmhouse on the outskirts of Washington, DC. For all intents and purposes it was my dream house -- simple, noble, roomy -- with lots of projects. The kitchen was extremely outdated when we bought the house, but I explained to my wife that I needed to underpin the foundation walls and reinforce the sagging floors before I could remodel the kitchen. Melissa had other ideas: She wanted help with the baby. No long, loud, dusty projects, but rather weekend trips and time with friends and out-of-town family. She wanted a new refrigerator. We were unable to find a side-by-side fridge model with an automatic ice maker and water dispenser that was also short enough to fit in the niche the old fridge had occupied, so I cut down the cabinet above the space and put on a new bottom. See graphic below:. The first step to establishing a water supply line to the fridge is to locate a water pipe to tap into. Preferably it will be in fairly close proximity to where the refrigerator will be positioned, but you have about 25 feet of leeway, given the length of the tubing supplied in the kit.
Another good alternative would be to use a braided stainless steel line, but they are double the price. Whenever installing plastic pipe with compression fittings such as these, you always want to use plastic ferrules. The ferrule, AKA sleeve or olive, is the part the compresses on to the pipe which makes for a leak free joint. If you use a brass ferrule, you run the chance of it cutting thru the pipe and causing the fitting to leak, this is where most DIYers make a mistake that could potentially lead to a disaster. Another thing to keep in mind is using a brass sleeve inside the pipe. However, if you feel like trying it out, I do suggest watching this video right here as it gives easy step-by-step instructions on how to properly solder a copper pipe.
A water line connection is required between the refrigerator and the home's water supply in order to use the ice maker and water dispenser. You will most likely need to install a connector or an adapter to your water supply.
Welcome to our informative guide on hooking up water-cooled ice machines! If you're a part of the commercial kitchen industry, you know the importance of efficient and reliable ice production for your business. Water-cooled ice machines offer several advantages over air-cooled alternatives, such as enhanced energy efficiency and quieter operation. Before installation, ensure that your installation space meets the necessary requirements for your water-cooled ice machine.
