LoginThere are still a lot of taboo subjects in society, and divorce is one of them. There is a lot of great information out there for navigating the end of a marriage and rediscovering love. As with everything in life, people handle relationships differently. The part I struggle with is that my boyfriend already took significant life steps that are fresh and new to me. Every relationship is different, and each experience new. Still, travel is an analogy I find easy to contextualize. A relationship comes down to love, trust, and communication—and I find all of that in mine—regardless of the inner monologue that keeps me up at night.
One day I woke up and suddenly felt distant from my husband. In between his firefighter and paramedic school demands and the demands of raising our son and taking care of our home, I realized it had been months since we went on a date. We always seemed to make an excuse for not going on dates … money was too tight, we waited too last minute to find a babysitter, or we would rather just stay in.
When were engaged and getting ready for our wedding, the pastor who did our pre-marital counseling made a big deal about how important a regular date night would be to our future marriage. Back then, we both kind of shrugged that suggestion off as no big deal—of course going on dates would be easy!
What should you do? Maybe there is a chance that makes dating a married man OK? Or any valid justifications for your hope to build a strong relationship based on true love with your new date?
