LoginA dazzling attraction that made its mark during the holiday season, Radiant Nature continues at Houston Botanic Garden through the end of February. Follow the sprawling path through the gardens and past more than 50 larger-than-life lanterns that evoke the vivid displays of traditional Chinese lantern festivals. Make your way through a tunnel of hanging wisteria toward kaleidoscopic installations, multi-colored animals and plants, and centerpieces like the foot-long dragon that marks the zodiac animal for the Lunar New Year. Looking for a post-stroll drink? Keep an eye on the event calendar for future happenings, or sign up for workshops on puppets, mosaic artwork, LEDs, and more. Located in Brazos Bend State Park, about 30 miles south of Pearland, the George Observatory offers a glimpse into the cosmos at Saturday stargazing sessions every weekend. Pick your evening session and go out exploring as expert guides walk you through the constellations with a laser tour, then duck into the multiple domes and peer through telescopes to see celestial bodies like planets of our solar system, the moon, constellations and other deep sky objects. Make sure to plan ahead as advance tickets are prone to selling out for each of the three time slots on Saturdays. Sessions are only canceled in the event of rain, but you can also take in the Cloudy Night Program on nights that are less clear.
