The Campus Kaywoodie line was introduced in and these pipes do not bear the 2 digit shape code. Campus and Colt series are Kaywoodies smallest pipes to be smoked between two classes. Although the Campus pipes have a Synchro Stem like screw-in attachment, the stinger itself is not of the Drinkless type see enlarged view 2. All the pipes from the "Coral" line have this unique rusticated finish.
I have kept many of them and others I have passed on to other pipemen and women. Borlum is one of those vintage names. There is still a long history following that for which I wanted further information. I was left wondering about the variations in the stampings on the Kaufmann Brothers and Bondy pipes.
I pulled this old Kaywoodie out of the refurb box a little while ago and left it on the corner of my desk for a while before starting the restoration. The pipe is a lovely Author shape, slightly chubby, with an elegant half bend. The stem is inset with the Kaywoodie black clover leaf inside a white circle on the left flank, and, surprisingly, the 3-hole stinger is intact. From what I can glean from various online sources, the 13B author shape is one of the oldest and most long-lived of the Kaywoodie shapes, in production since If anyone can clarify the dating on this pipe, please let me know.
