LoginRelationships of all types face challenges, from communication to finances to intimacy to career choices. Relationships with people in the medical world are no exception. However, they do have their own set of unique challenges. Luckily, they also have some unique benefits! Below I will take you through some pros and cons of dating a medical student or resident.
Dating is pretty daunting. Dating someone in a surgical residency program or really, ANY residency is something of a myth. Surgeon and I met during his 2nd year of residency. I seriously had no idea what I was getting into back then.
Dating, in general, is challenging but dating a resident doctor during their residency years is completely different. The first couple of years of their residency is the hardest. Tip 1: Be patient. So, if you are dating a resident, be patient and wait for a reply. If all of a sudden you are going on week to several without a reply, then I would check in later in the evenings. When Jake was on his vascular rotation, I felt like I never saw him or talked with him, while other rotations like GI were a lot less stressful and more balanced.
