LoginDear visitor, if you know the answer to this question, please post it. Thank you! Note that this thread has not been updated in a long time, and its content might not be up-to-date anymore. Without getting into personal opinions about the subject of transgender and transsexuality, I want to understand the basic challenges being a transgender foreigner will bring. I'm transitioning right now, at 21 years of age and plan to go to Japan when I'm 30, have finished university, and have established stronger financial stability.
This can mean that for you, dating may have other challenges. But being trans will not preclude you from finding love and having a meaningful and beautiful relationship or a few! Eventually, our presence as trans people will be completely normalized, but until then, here are some trans-specific tips for how to date. As you start the journey of finding the perfect partnership, we want to make one thing clear; you are valuable, awesome, and worthy of love! We know that the right person is out there for you, and while they might be a little work to find, we know that your future ideal partner is going to love you for exactly the way you are.
Dating us doesn't make you gay. Unless you're a guy, of course! But ladies, if you're attracted to men, fancying a trans guy doesn't suddenly change your sexuality. It means you're seeing them for the man that they are. It isn't the 'best of both worlds'. I've heard some girls say a trans man would be the perfect man because they can relate to women.
Brene Brown has a lot to say about this. My favourite has always been OkCupid. I like it because it allows for very specific filtering, gives a percentage match and allows for more nuanced identities and orientations than any other site. Having said that, I do not take advantage of these nuances in my own profile.
