LoginPosted Dating can be hard, period. Dating with an ostomy is even harder. When do you bring it up? How much detail do you go into?
I had an ileostomy placed in and since then, my year relationship has ended. I'm now comfortable enough with my physical condition to start dating again but having some trouble getting started. I'm thinking that looking to meet a woman with an ostomy also may be a good idea because we already have at least one thing in common, lol. I'm kind of shy at first, so any input on how to get outside of my comfort zone and meet women on this site would be greatly appreciated.
Telling a new or prospective partner that you have a stoma can be daunting. Others choose to tell someone after a couple of dates, so that the prospective partner has seen that the stoma does not define who they are or what they can do. It may help you to rehearse the conversation alone before having it with a potential new partner. Be sure to demonstrate to them that your stoma is only part of who you are.
Dating with a stoma bag. When Harrison Kefford's doctor first suggested a stoma bag earlier this year, his dating life was the first thing that came to mind. While his parents thought this should be the last of his problems, sex and dating is a huge part of most of our 20s, and being diagnosed with a chronic illness only complicates it. Since being diagnosed with Crohn's disease, year-old Harrison has been spreading awareness about his experiences on TikTok, and year-old Aylee Rankine's been doing the same. As colorectal surgeon Jonathan Hong explains, Crohn's disease is a form of inflammatory bowel disease IBD and can be effectively treated with medication in most people.
