Well, let me push you on this. Are you anxious about what the future holds? God does have a plan, and if you let him write your love story, it might not be what you were expecting, but it will be amazing. Giving your best to your academic endeavors? Growing in your faith life? Striving to be a good friend, family member, and citizen?
It can include saying no to casual dating, flirting, making out, and the like; no spending an afternoon daydreaming about your crush or thinking about your wedding; and not encouraging any thoughts of lacking worth or how one relationship will fulfill you. I asked myself the same question until one day, during college, I listened to a talk by a priest about friendships between men and women. I realized that many men had not been friends, or even people, to me for a long time. They had become prospects. I was usually on the lookout for that next crush who would hopefully, finally, be the man of my dreams. This caused problems: a lot of heartaches and wasted time, especially the time I spent admiring my crushes on Facebook.
FOCUS missionaries do a lot of crazy things. They fundraise their salaries.
But I chose to not go on any dates specifically these past five months, and my dating fast will end in less than two weeks. What have these past five months been like? Simply opening up every aspect of my life to God this year, including my love life which I have been so reluctant to give Him has been an amazing, humbling, gratifying, humbling, and beautiful experience. Did I mention humbling?
