LoginFor first-timers or newbies, we understand that it can be confusing. No matter the brand, there are two types of soundbars: active and passive. They can both connect to a receiver, but a passive soundbar will be more compatible as active ones were not meant to be used this way. This is because active soundbars are designed to be all you need in one device. To emphasize, active soundbars have everything in one little package including digital decoders, surround sound capabilities, and internal amps. Passive soundbars, however, were meant to be integrated into a larger system. So, to get the best sound out of a passive soundbar, each channel has to be connected to an external amplifier or receiver.
I currently have a Sony Receiver, with 5 old speakers attached to the wall at above head height and a sub on the floor. She who must be obeyed, would like to decorate and dispense with the wall speakers and would prefer a sound bar. How can a sound bar be linked to the Receiver. Is this the right thing to do? Go to Solution. And you could always use your suggestion of an HDMI switcher on a TV with less than 4, though make sure to get one with its own remote. View solution in original post.
Hello all. I recently went to Best Buy to get their advice on what kind of soundbar and receiver to get for what I was trying to do, and they recommended getting a Denon receiver AVR-SH and Sonos Arc soundbar. But I am also wanting to connect the soundbar to my Denon AVR-SH receiver again, to have the radio come through the soundbar , but I am having difficulty on how to do this. How can I connect the Arc soundbar to the radio receiver without disconnecting it from my TV?
