The Trouble With a Public 40-Day Dating Experiment

A book expanding their online confessional will appear in bookstores next month. So went the viral 40 Days of Dating experiment in which friends Jessica Walsh and Timothy Goodman tried committing to a relationship, and then documented their experience online in a he-said-she-said-style blog. Though the confessional was derided by many, other fans were left wanting more when it ended. Soon, such cravings will be fed: This week, the friends-turned-lovers-turned-exes announced that their tome, due on Jan.
We recently posted about a new project from designers Jessica Walsh and Timothy Goodman called " 40 Days of Dating " in which the two agreed to date one another for 40 days see the Dating Rules video, below and document the experience online. With our curiosity piqued and the site just a few hours old, we checked in with the NYC designers to find out why they'd embark on such a risky and not-obviously-design-related venture. What interested you in doing this? Tim: It was a small idea I had about a year ago, but I didn't really know the 'what' or the 'how. Jessie ran with the idea, and it really became something entirely different after that. Jessica: We were waiting in line for egg sandwiches at a deli in JFK en route to Art Basel when Tim mentioned an idea he had for a dating project.

In July , two young New York designers published their romantic experiment online. Jessica Walsh and Timothy Goodman were good friends who, finding themselves single at the same time, decided to embark on a dating experiment. As designers, they documented the entire process. The result, the blog 40 Days of Dating , has been seen by over ten million people and counting, becoming an internet sensation and catapulting Walsh and Goodman into the limelight.
